Bayshore HealthCare offers many employment options
by Ethan Paquet

Bayshore HealthCare is one of Canada’s leading providers of home and community healthcare services and is a Canadian-owned company.

There are over 100 locations across the country including 65 home care offices, 13 pharmacies, and over 90 infusion clinics. They serve over 350,000 clients with 13,500 staff members who provide customized care plans and solutions that allow clients to remain in their own homes.
Ian Cababasay is a Talent Acquisition Specialist with Bayshore HealthCare. He says the work they do can help make their clients’ lives more enjoyable as they continue to live at home.
“The homecare services we provide can be anything from light housekeeping, companionship, and more. Our services are not just for the elderly population, but for anyone who needs help that can allow them to stay at home. From Alberton to Souris, we have staff from one end of the Island to the other.”
Ian says now is the perfect time to consider a career in healthcare. “One thing we learned in the pandemic is that there are a lot of careers that people might have explored, but healthcare is here to stay.”
The healthcare sector on PEI is constantly looking for more workers, and Bayshore HealthCare can offer job seekers a way to break into the field, Ian says.
“We pledge to help the community by giving an opportunity to whoever wants to work in healthcare. Our main goal is for our employees to see the beauty of healthcare, that’s why we are willing to train people who may not have a background in healthcare.”
Home Support Worker is an entry-level position that helps to develop your skillset. Duties include companionship, conversation, safety measures, light housekeeping, and cooking.
From there, workers can advance in their career by enrolling in a post-secondary program to become a Resident Care Worker, Licensed Practical Nurse, or Registered Nurse.
“We support employees who enroll in further training by providing complementary hours so they can go to school and work at the same time. If staff want to become a Licensed Practical Nurse or a Registered Nurse, we have different positions to support their career choice. We will support employees from the beginning until their end goal, and we will work around their work availability.”
There is also support for newcomers as they navigate the immigration process. “Bayshore prides itself in diversity, and 70 to 80 percent of our employees are newcomers or immigrants. As an immigrant myself, I know the feeling of moving to a new province or new country and not knowing where to start, or what opportunities there are. So, part of our role is to navigate new immigrants through careers in the healthcare sector. We try to help them see the opportunities and expand on them.”
