SkillsPEI offers programs and services for job seekers, employers and organizations. SkillsPEI provides assistance to unemployed individuals who are eligible for Employment Insurance (EI) and individuals who are non-EI eligible to prepare for and find employment.

Programs for employers: Employ PEI, Workplace Skills Training, Graduate Mentorship program, Digital Skills 4 Youth PEI, Team Food Island Student Job Bonus
The Team Food Island program gives students an opportunity to earn a bonus towards their post-secondary education while they earn a wage working for a participating agriculture, aquaculture, or seafood company.
Students going into grades 10, 11 or 12 in the fall are paid a $1,000 completion bonus by the employer upon completion of their work term, which is a minimum of 250 hours.
Post-Secondary students starting or returning to post-secondary studies in the fall are paid a $2,000 bonus upon completion of a minimum of 500 hours (or 250 hours for those graduating from grade 12 in 2022).

The Post-Secondary Student Program is a summer employment program funded by the Government of Prince Edward Island and administered by the Department of Economic Growth, Tourism and Culture. Priority will be given to employers that provide post-secondary students with a valuable experiential learning opportunity related to the student’s field of study.
Eligible employers on Prince Edward Island include:
- Registered private sector businesses
- Non-profit organizations
- Public Sector (government departments and/or municipal government)
Eligible students must:
- Have graduated from Grade 12; and/or
- Have attended a post-secondary institution full-time in the current year and intend to return to full-time studies in the fall of the current year
- Be a resident of Prince Edward Island and legally authorized to work in Canada
Once an employer submits a completed application package, a SkillsPEI Program Officer will contact you to review and discuss your application.
How to apply
Employers must complete the Post-Secondary Student Organization Application form online or email skillspei@gov.pe.ca to request a paper application.
Students are encouraged to develop a resumé and create a job-seeker account on WorkPEI. Many of the approved positions under the Post-Secondary Student Program will be posted at WorkPEI. Students can view and apply for positions of interest directly to employers.
Applications must be approved by the Department of Economic Growth, Tourism and Culture before activities funded under this program can begin.

Digital Skills 4 Youth PEI is a new internship opportunity for Island youth delivered by the Department of Economic Growth, Tourism and Culture with funding support from Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada. The program connects recent graduates to meaningful employment and gives them the skills to succeed in the digital economy.

Workplace Skills Training is a program developed for employers to train new or existing employees to develop their skills and align with needs of the business. The employer determines the type of training and who will participate. SkillsPEI can contribute up to 50 percent of the direct training costs. Employers contribute the remaining 50 percent. At the end of the training, the employee should have developed skills to meet the demands of today’s economy.
