Vanco Farms grows, harvests, and packs potatoes under the name Little Potato Company. They also produce cut tulips and tulip bulbs.
In 1982 Peter and Jetty VanNieuwenhuyzen moved the family to PEI and purchased a mixed farm. Their sons Willem, Rit, and Phillip took over the family farm in 2001. The farms are located in Oyster Bed Bridge, Pisquid, York, West Covehead, and Cherry Valley, and the main office is in Mt. Albion.
“Close to 160 staff work full-time, year-round,” says Arun Jose, Human Resources Manager. “Apart from the locals, we also have a group from Mexico working seasonal and year-round.”
Hiring needs
“The business is expanding, and we are looking for more full-time workers. All positions are hard to fill. It is not easy to find people. Many other companies are also finding it hard to find workers.
“The year-round work we offer is inside the plant in the packing unit in Mt. Albion.”
