For parents of children with diagnosed or undiagnosed learning disabilities or difficulties, LDAPEI offers advice and support. Additionally, certified teachers provide specific remediation via tutoring in reading/spelling and math. Additional other curriculum subjects are supported as needed.
The Island Reader Program: Tutors work one-on-one supporting students with reading and spelling issues at the student’s pace. Students learn foundational skills via an open researched Orton-Gillingham influenced program.
The JUMP Math Program: Tutors deliver a math program in support of current curriculum to students at their own pace. The tutor makes the learning process fun while developing the skills and confidence of each student.
All tutoring is provided one-on-one at $30 per session of up to one hour. Tutoring is offered in 10-week blocks. Parents who are not able to pay for their child to be in the Island Reader program should contact LDAPEI, as subsidies of up to 50 percent may be available.
The same programs are available for adults with a diagnosed or undiagnosed learning disability.
Other than tutoring, the association offers information and advice regarding available supports and other resources that may be beneficial to those impacted.
