Seafood Express Transport, based in Charlottetown, specializes in temperature-controlled shipping between Canada and the United States, transporting goods throughout North America for 40 years.
They have 90 power units (truck cabs) and more than 100 trailers. A few years ago, Seafood Express moved into a larger, newly constructed building in Charlottetown equipped with a gym, locker rooms, dorm room, lounge, and training facility for the drivers.
They currently employ 120 staff, including Drivers and Office Workers, and are hiring for various roles. “We are looking to hire Long Haul Truck Drivers, Dispatchers, and Truck Mechanics,” says Harleen Kaur, HR Recruiter. “The most difficult position to fill is Long Haul Truck Drivers.”
Long Haul Truck Drivers are responsible for driving the temperature-controlled trailers across Canada and the United States. The minimum qualifications include a current Class 1 License, a clean driver’s abstract, and at least six months experience. Drivers also need a United States work visa.
Wages and benefits
“Depending on experience, we pay $0.44 to $0.50 per mile. We offer a limited time signing bonus program, referral program, and an extended health and dental benefits plan.”
Application process
Open positions can be found online through job boards, by visiting the company website, and on social media.
“Candidates can apply online on our website or come in to fill out the application form and meet with the Recruiter and trainer. Then we do a phone interview with the candidate to discuss details about the position and answer any questions they might have. From there, we would conduct a road test to evaluate the candidate’s driving skills.”
