SEKISUI Diagnostics in Charlottetown is a recognized leader in the development, manufacturing, and supply of innovative clinical chemical reagents and systems in the global invitro diagnostics industry. Their broad line of reagents includes cardiovascular, diabetes, liver, renal, and specialty assays.

Their systems, reagents and tests help deliver accurate, timely results and support the improvement of patient care worldwide. Their enzymes and specialty biochemicals foster the development and delivery of quality products for laboratory and research environments.

“Our testing kits are found in doctor’s offices and hospitals here on PEI and across the world,” says Adella Henderson, HR Administrator.

Currently, there are 185 full-time year-round staff, as well as some temporary employees.

Hiring needs

Currently, there are six openings, including Associate Quality Assurance Specialist, Quality Control Technologist, Process Technician, Material Handler, Purchasing Specialist, and a Packaging Associate. These positions require a wide variety of backgrounds.

“Some of the more specialized, specific scientific roles can be harder to fill,” says Adella. “We receive a lot of applications for the Packaging Associate role, because it is an entry-level position.

“Typically, we hire a lot of diverse people where English is not their first language, and they may have backgrounds that make them overqualified for an entry-level position, but they may start there until there are opportunities to advance. Positions are always advertised internally and externally.”

The application process

“We look at every application that comes in,” says Adella. “There is an extensive screening process that may lead to an interview if you meet the qualifications. The interview process is fair and equitable, and each interview is graded like a test. If you do well with the interview, you will continue with the hiring process.”
